The new company under Sony and Honda will manufacture, develop, and sell electric cars but not own or operate its manufacturing facilities. People are happy to hear that Honda, due to its huge experience in making cars, will be in charge of manufacturing the electric car in their own plants.

Furthermore, Sony will be in charge of the mobility service platform for the electric car.

Sources are not yet sure on what the design of the electric cars will look like but Sony is an important supplier of image sensors for smartphones and is seriously designing the chips for cars. Adding to this, Sony is also a powerhouse in video games due to its PlayStation.

Sony previously revealed that they will set up a company called Sony Mobility to have an entry into the electric vehicle market. Sony is also taking off the wraps on a prototype sport utility vehicle that is known as the VISION-S 02.

Additionally, Honda has been adapting to become an electric car company and they said it would phase out gas-powered vehicles by the year 2040. Currently, Honda has a partnership with General Motors to manufacture new electric vehicles.

Sony and Honda together mark a new example of tech companies moving into the auto sector and carmakers looking to add to their technological capabilities.
