Jimmy Kimmel

In the previous week, Jimmy Kimmel interviewed actress Ashley Park. The actress performed a cover of BTS's "Dynamite" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" She told Jimmy Kimmel that K-pop stars RM and V of BTS shared videos of her cover on the social media platform Instagram.

Unfortunately, Ashley Park found out she had tested positive for the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus not long after. Jimmy Kimmel then compared this to her fangirling over the K-pop boy group, BTS.

Ashley Park shared that she never expected to have COVID-19 because she believed that she was just in shock after BTS's RM and V shared clips of her K-pop cover. Jimmy Kimmel noted, "You thought it was BTS fever," and the actress confirmed.

Jimmy Kimmel then added, "They're both very dangerous. You're lucky to come out of those alive," to the shock of K-pop fans and netizens.

Netizens and fans then called out Jimmy Kimmel for comparing 'BTS fever' to the COVID-19 virus. Asians have been targeted with hate and violence since the start of the pandemic and K-pop fans feel that Jimmy Kimmel's 'joke' is another addition to the Asian hate.

Just recently, netizens and K-pop fans are once again upset at Jimmy Kimmel for allegedly throwing shade at BTS while talking about Omicron BA.2, the most recent COVID-19 variant, during the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" episode on the 27th of January.

Although Jimmy Kimmel did not directly mention BTS, K-pop fans believe that he talked about them as he made a similar joke last week while interviewing Ashley Park. He also referred to 'boy bands popping up all over the world', alluding to K-pop groups.

Netizens and K-pop fans are even more upset at Jimmy Kimmel as he and his writers never apologized for the initial 'joke' he made while interviewing Ashley Park.

Similar to the previous week, netizens are calling him out on Twitter and TikTok. K-pop fans are also calling him out for allegedly making a racist joke into his monologue by not directly using the name of BTS.
