Just recently, both Netflix and the director of "Squid Game" Hwang Dong Hyuk have gone on to comment on their plans for the upcoming seasons of their immensely popular online series.

As of writing this article, yesterday on the 29th of December, Hwang Dong Hyuk was featured in an interview with media sources, and in the interview, the "Squid Game" director expressed, "I'm currently in the midst of discussions with Netflix about Season 2 and Season 3 of 'Squid Game'."
Hwang Dong Hyuk further added that he thinks they will be reaching some sort of conclusion to their discussions soon. He knows that many people are waiting, so everyone is working hard to prepare for the next season with a positive outlook.
Furthermore, Hwang Dong Hyuk shared what the main plotline for the 2nd season of "Squid Game" will be.

"The focus of the season will be the story of Lee Jung Jae's character Seong Gi Hun unraveling the mysteries of the organization behind the game. The overarching plotline of Season 2 will be the story of the people that Gi Hun meets and the people he chases after," the "Squid Game" director revealed.
On the same day, Netflix talked about the possibility of a third season of "Squid Game" by sharing that it is true that they are discussing a wide variety of possibilities for "Squid Game," which also includes the production of a 3rd season, though nothing has been set in stone.
