Netflix's original series "Squid Game" makes history at the "2021 Gotham Awards."

"Squid Game" is a 9-episode drama that tells the story of people who participated in a mysterious survival game with a prize of ₩45.6 billion won (approximately $38 million), risking their lives to become the ultimate winner. It was released through Netflix.

During the "2021 Gotham Awards," "Squid Game" was hailed as the winner of the "BREAKTHROUGH SERIES - LONG FORM" award beating the likes of "The Good Lord Bird" of Showtime, "It's A Sin" of HBO Max, "Small Axe" of Amazon Studios, "The Underground Railroad" of Amazon Studios, and "The White Lotus" of HBO Max/HBO.
Kim Ji Yeon, CEO of Cyron Pictures, the producer of "Squid Game" said on the stage, "Since the show was released on September 17th, so many miracles have happened, and among them, was the huge support from all over the world for a small show. I don't think I can thank you more than this, but I want to send the best possible thanks to the fans of the 'Squid Game' around the world."

On the other hand, "Squid Game" director Hwang Dong Hyuk recalled the time when the script for "Squid Game" was first made in 2009, 12 years ago, at the time no one liked it, saying it was unrealistic, but now it has become the number one show in the world.
