Russia’s Bombing On Syria Receives Backlash; 200+ Civilians Killed!
As the conflict continues over at Syria, the world has recently witnessed news of Russia's mark in its fight against IS (Islamic State formerly ISIS/ISIL) by bombing over military targets, which however has received backlashes from the international community as it was reported that more than 200 civilians were killed and that it may constitute as a war crime, according to sources.
Recent news about Russia's fight against ISIS in Syria indicated that a Russian Su-25 bomber deployed an airstrike that destroyed a "large base" of Islamic State in Idlib province, after Syrian opposition forces assisted the Russian military forces with the target's coordinates, as previously reported.
This military tactic came shortly after Russia deployed its S-400 Surface-to-Air Missile batteries, which is the most advanced air defense systems currently operational, in Syria, succeeding the crash of a Russian Air Force Su-24M bomber by the Turkish Air Force over the Syrian border, as stated by the The Hindu.
The Amnesty International has recently reported that there has been a surge of cluster munitions that bombed areas targeted by Russian forces over at Syria, which by nature these cluster munitions are indiscriminate and frequently enough leaves unexploded bomblets on the targeted area that may still kill or injure civilians long after the conflict has ceased, as reported by ABC News.
"Some Russian air strikes appear to have directly attacked civilians or civilian objects by striking residential areas with no evident military target and even medical facilities, resulting in deaths and injuries to civilians," Director of Amnesty's Middle East and North Africa program Philip Luther said, courtesy of the source.
"Russian air strikes in Syria have killed hundreds of civilians and caused massive destruction in residential areas, striking homes, a mosque and a busy market, as well as medical facilities, in... attack that show evidence of violations of international humanitarian law, the Amnesty said in a new report, as stated by Reuters.
"Such attacks may amount to war crimes", they added.
Russian President Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, however, stated that the Russian military in Syria operated within the guidelines of international law, as reported by ABC News.
"Russia is conducting its operation in strict conformity with principles and norms of the international law, including those sections of the international law that regulate using and bans on using one or another type of weapons, "the Spokesman said.
