Disney+ has announced the official release date for one of 2025's most anticipated K-dramas. "Polaris" (Korean: 북극성), starring Jeon Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won, will premiere on September 10, 2025, accompanied by the release of an intense "Into the Storm" poster.

The series follows Moon Ju (Jeon Ji-hyun), a UN ambassador with international recognition, as she investigates the truth behind a presidential candidate assassination attempt. She partners with San Ho (Kang Dong-won), a mysterious special agent of unknown nationality who must protect her as they confront a massive conspiracy threatening the Korean Peninsula.

This marks the first collaboration between two of Korea's biggest stars. For Kang Dong-won, "Polaris" represents his return to television after 20 years-his last drama was "Magic" in 2004. He's also serving as producer on the project.

Jeon Ji-hyun plays diplomat Seo Moon-joo, whose years of experience have made her a trusted figure in international politics. When she encounters elite mercenary Baek San-ho (Kang Dong-won), whose nationality and past are shrouded in mystery, they must work together to uncover the truth behind a massive case.

Disney+ will release "Polaris" with 3 episodes on September 10, followed by 2 new episodes every Wednesday starting September 17, for a total of 9 episodes.

Directors: Kim Hee-won (Queen of Tears, Vincenzo) teams with Heo Myung-haeng (The Roundup 4: Punishment) for co-direction.

Writer: Jung Seo-kyung, Park Chan-wook's longtime script partner known for Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden, and Little Women.

The ensemble includes John Cho making his K-drama debut as U.S. Under Secretary of State, alongside Kim Hae-sook as President Chae Kyung-shin, Yoo Jae-myung as head of the National Intelligence Service, Park Hae-joon, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-hee, Joo Jong-hyuk, Won Ji-ahn, and Lee Mi-sook.

The "Into the Storm" poster was created by Empire Design, the British studio behind acclaimed film posters for "The Handmaiden," "Decision to Leave," "The Wailing," and "Stoker." The design uses striking red and monochrome contrasts with unique textures to showcase the series' high production values.

This espionage thriller represents Disney+'s continued investment in premium Korean content. The series blends political intrigue with spy romance, promising to deliver both intense action and emotional depth for international audiences.

With its September 10 premiere date now confirmed, "Polaris" positions itself as a major fall release for Disney+ and a significant entry in the growing catalog of Korean content on global streaming platforms.
