To the delight of K-pop, K-drama, and K-wave fans overall, South Korea is going to introduce a new type of travel visa due to the popularity of Korean entertainment; the Hallyu Visa.

Notably, the new Hallyu visa program is slated to be introduced by South Korea this 2022 with the goal to draw in more global cultural talents, further adding international talent to their already huge pool and K-pop artists, K-drama stars, and more.

Due to this, it has been referred to by netizens and K-pop fans as the Hallyu visa program, which is named to refer to the Hallyu or Korean wave of entertainment, such as the aforementioned K-pop, K-dramas, and movies that have further grown in global popularity.

Furthermore, the Hallyu visa program was specifically made to respond to the Korean wave (aka as the K-wave). The visa is meant to support the entry of foreigners eager to learn about the Korean culture and entertainment industry, such as K-pop, K-dramas, and the like.

To confirm this, a senior Justice Ministry official expressed the purpose of the program, as it is mainly a response not only due to the Korean Wave but also due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The Justice Ministry has been pushing for the Hallyu visa program on the back of soaring demand for education on Korea's cultural content, to add further momentum to the Korean Wave and support the pandemic-hit local culture and music industry [...]," the senior Justice Ministry official reported.

For one to be eligible for the program, one must plan to stay for longer than 90 days in South Korea and enroll in entertainment-related education. No further details have been reported regarding the Hallyu visa, but it is safe to say that K-pop and K-drama fans are excited.
