The six-membered girl group debuted under Source Music in 2015 with their lead single "Glass Beads" Later that year, GFRIEND made their first comeback with the lead single "Me Gustas Tu." A viral fan video of GFRIEND performing "Me Gustas Tu" despite falling multiple times on a very slippery stage propelled the international fame of GFRIEND.

In 2016, GFRIEND released "Rough," which gave them not just their first music show win but also their first triple crowns for MCountdown, Show Champion, Music Bank, and Inkigayo. "Rough" put GFRIEND in K-Pop's hall of fame at second place for girl group songs, with most music show wins at 15.
