‘Uncanny Counter’ Star And Former IOI Kim Sejeong Renews Contract With Agency
On May 11, Jellyfish Entertainment confirmed the reports that Kim Sejeong has renewed her exclusive contract with the agency. The singer-actress will continue to promote her solo activities after the sudden disbandment of her group, Gugudan, last December 2020.
Kim Sejeong first got the attention of the South Korean public after appearing in Produce 101, where she amazed everyone with her adorable personality and great vocals. With her immense popularity, Kim Sejeong ranked 2nd among 101 aspiring trainees and become an official member of the project group IOI.
While promoting with IOI in 2016, Kim Sejeong debuted with Jellyfish Entertainment's girl group, Gugudan. Sadly, the girl group wasn't able to reach its full potential and decided to disband in December 2020. Despite this, Kim Sejeong's solo career was on fire.
In 2016, Kim Sejeong released her first solo song, "Flower Road," which was produced by Zico. With the song, Kim Sejeong hit it big and became the fastest South Korean soloist to win in a music show. Such a successful solo release just shows the star power that Kim Sejeong has and has become her first step to a more fruitful solo career.
On the other hand, Sejeong made her acting debut in 2016 with a guest role for "The Sound of Your Heart," but her break-out role is playing Ra Eun Ho for "School 2017." After the very successful "School 2017," Kim Sejeong starred in the 2019 drama "I Wanna Hear Your Song."
Meanwhile, Kim Sejeong's role as Do Ha Na in "The Uncanny Counter" propelled her popularity, especially with international K-drama fans.
Currently, Kim Sejeong is slated to appear as the main character for three upcoming K-dramas, including the possible "The Uncanny Counter 2," "Today's Webtoon," and "The Office Blind Date." She has also recently released her second mini-album entitled "I'm" with the title track "Warning."
