Herbs have savory or aromatic properties that are used for adding more flavor and garnish for food, medicinal purposes, and for fragrances. Thus, having them in one's kitchen is a pretty quick way to spice up one's life.

But among the dozens of herbs to choose, which ones are the best to grow and tend indoors? Here are the best herbs for indoor growing:

Lemon Balm

Lemon balm plants need to be grown out for a year for the best flavor. Enthusiasts should plant it indoors during fall, grow it indoors during winter, and then perhaps plant it outside for the seasons of spring and summer.


Easily enough, Chives grow anywhere. Those who are interested in them should harvest them at the base, similar to cutting grass, and should be done so no more than one-third of the amount at a time.


Growing mint indoors is an amazing plan for those who seek to spruce up their kitchen as all varieties are good for indoors. Isolating mint keeps it from growing unnecessarily in the yard and garden. 


Parsley is among the best herbs that is filled with a myriad of benefits. If one should choose to start growing parsley, it should be known that one should start from the seed, soak it in warm water to crack the seed coat, and then sow it.


Filled to the brim with anti-inflammatory properties, basil is a great herb to grow indoors. One should use the smaller globe types of the herb for indoor growing. Large types are too big and could cause problems in terms of space.

Short-lived by nature, cilantro is one of the perfect herbs to grow inside the house. If interested,  a person should begin a succession of seedlings in two to three week intervals to always have this herb ready.
