Although the world is still being ravaged by Covid, most recently the Omicron variant, American business magnate, software developer, investor, author, and philanthropist Bill Gates believes that the pandemic has the chance to subside soon.

As per the co-founder of Microsoft, once the Omicron surge subsides, there will be far fewer Covid cases this 2022. Bill Gates noted this and shared more information in a Twitter Q&A with Devi Sridhar, chair of global public health at the University of Edinburgh, on the 12th of January.

Bill Gates added that Covid has the ability to become as common and treatable as the seasonal flu after Omicron, a thing that other experts believe as well. Bill Gates is an advocate of public health who vocally shares his thoughts on the Covid pandemic response.

Experts say that the fast-spreading Omicron variant, although still dangerous, could give enough people with natural immunity to help direct the Covid pandemic into a less severe 'endemic' status.

Furthermore, Bill Gates talked about this possible scenario in the Twitter Q&A, going on to predict that the Covid variant Omicron "will create a lot of immunity, at least for the next year."

When the Covid pandemic eventually turns into an endemic, people may have to take annual shots for Covid for a while, which is similar to yearly flu shots, Bill Gates believes.

Moreover, Bill Gates' positive prediction could be proven wrong if a much dangerous Covid variant follows up behind Omicron. Most especially if it is more dangerous or transmissible compared to the current Covid variants

Bill Gates explained that although the aforementioned scenario is probably unlikely, this does not mean it is impossible.

Lastly, Bill Gates noted, "A more transmissive Covid variant is not likely, but we have been surprised a lot during this pandemic."
