Netizens & BLINKs Celebrate As 'BLACKPINK The Movie' Becomes 2021’s Highest-Grossing Event Cinema Release!
BLINKs (the fandom name of YG Entertainment's BLACKPINK) alongside netizens celebrate BLACKPINK's recent success as their film, "BLACKPINK The Movie," becomes a hit in the box office!
As of writing this article, on the 17th of August, CJ 4DPLEX and Trafalgar Releasing went on to announce that BLACKPINK's new movie has turned into the highest-grossing event cinema release of this year.
As per reports from MusicWeek, "BLACKPINK The Movie" (which was initially dropped as a limited release on the 4th of August) has, as of writing this article, gone on to gross $4.8 million (approximately 5.6 billion Korean won) from almost 100 countries.
BLACKPINK's movie has focused on the four members and alongside their performances at the concert and it was released to celebrate BLACKPINK's fifth anniversary. The BLACKPINK film also shows how important the fans are for the popularity BLACKPINK has reached today.
The "BLACKPINK The Movie" has gone beyond 500 thousand viewers from all across the world. This amount is the largest number of admissions for any event cinema release for 2021.
Adding to this, as COVID-19 prohibitions become lifted in Southeast Asia, BLACKPINK's is slated to drop in more countries at the end of August. Currently, "BLACKPINK The Movie" has been screened in over 3,400 cinemas.
During its opening night, "BLACKPINK The Movie" went on to reach the 6th spot at the U.S. box office and earned the second-highest per-screen average. The only film to beat it was "Jungle Cruise."
This shows how supportive BLINKs are towards BLACKPINK's Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo, and Lisa. For five years, BLINKs have been one of the most supportive K-pop fan groups and it seems that they continue to do so going into the 5th year of BLACKPINK.
