For 2021, five talented actresses are vying for the prestigious award. Check out the "Best Actress (TV)" nominees in the upcoming 57th Baeksang Awards.
Kim So Yeon ("The Penthouse: War in Life")
First on this list is Kim So Yeon, who plays the role of Hera Club's queen bee, Cheon Seo Jin. The 40-year-old actress is currently leading the addicting SBS K-Drama "The Penthouse: War in Life" along with many other notable actors. Kim So Yeon is so far the best contender for the "Best Actress" for her iconic acting in what most consider as the hottest drama of today.
Seo Ye Ji ("It's Okay to Not Be Okay")
Seo Ye Ji's role as Ko Moon Young in the 2020 tvN drama "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" has propelled her overseas popularity after it was aired on the global streaming platform Netflix. Acting alongside Kim Soo Hyun, the 31-year-old actress left an impact on the viewers as the extremely selfish, arrogant, and rude children's literature writer. Despite this, Seo Ye Ji might have the lower hand for this award as she is currently entangled in a series of controversies regarding her past relationship with actor Kim Jung Hyun as well as other allegations against her "problematic" personality.
Shin Hye Sun ("Mr. Queen")
"Mr. Queen" hit it big from its initial broadcast to its final episode. Shin Hye Sun's portrayal of Queen Kim So Yong was both hilarious and awesome. Although the actress, as well as the drama itself, faced criticisms over alleged historical distortion, it can't be denied that this Shin Hye Sun's performance is worthy of distinction.
Kim So Hyun ("River Where The Moon Rises")
The K-Drama "River Where The Moon Rises'' went through a lot of challenges, especially after the lead actor, Jisoo, faced backlash over bullying accusations that eventually led him to depart from the drama. Despite this, Kim So Hyun, who plays the female lead role, showed her immense talent in acting that is worthy of recognition. The 21-year-old actress portrays the role of Princess Pyeonggang who becomes a female general who fights her way into regaining the ruined status of her country, GoGuryeo,
Uhm Ji Won ("Birthcare Center")
The 43-year-old has won numerous "Best Actress" awards over her long career in the South Korean entertainment industry.
