'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16 Update: Meghan Markle's BFF Abigail Spencer To Reprise Role In ABC Medical Drama
Actress Abigail Spencer is coming back in Grey's Anatomy. Spencer will reprise her role of Dr. Owen Hunt's sister, Megan.
Spencer, herself, confirmed her return with a selfie of her at the Grey's set. Meghan Markle's close friend who took over the role of Megan from Bridget Regan, who appeared in five episodes in 2017.
"Red hair. Super care. Megan Hunt is baaaaack," she captioned the photo.
Spencer is confirmed to appear in at least one episode in Grey's Anatomy Season 16. However, it is still unclear on what will be the story behind his return. There are several possibilities that Megan will return to Seattle.
It could be something to do with her relationship with Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) who also used to be Meredith Grey's (Ellen Pompeo) ex-boyfriend. It can be recalled that Riggs broke up with Mer and he and Megan eventually decided to start their life anew with her adopted son in Los Angeles.
Another reason could be her big brother. Owen has been in complicated situations in the past episodes because of Teddy's (Kim Raver) pregnancy and Betty's (Peyton Kennedy) parents appearing in their life to take the teenage mom and her kid, Leo. Although Betty's parents have returned Leo's custody to Owen, there is still a problem at the Hunt's household.
Owen is still sulking over Teddy's romantic relationship with Tom Koracick (Greg Germann) which bothers and annoys Amelia (Caterina Scorsone). Teddy or Amelia could be asking for Megan's help to put sense on her brother's head.
Another possibility is that Megan will be helping in a surgery or possibly bringing a patient with her. Remember, Megan is also a surgeon. She served in the U.S. Army as a trauma surgeon at the same time as her brother, Teddy, and Riggs.
Based on her photo that she shared on Twitter, Spencer is seen clad in a navy blue shirt that looks like the same with the navy blue scrub suit that the Grey's-Sloan Memorial Hospital attending surgeons are wearing. If this is the case, Megan could have been asked to scrub in to assist in the surgery of a patient.
Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC. Season 16 Episode 17, titled "And Dream of Sheep," will air on March 14.
