100 Days of Deception Ratings: Episode 2 Rises to 7.6%
tvN's "100 Days of Deception" climbed to a nationwide average of 7.6 percent for its second episode on Oct. 11, taking first place in its time slot among all cable channels, Nielsen Korea figures reported by Soompi show. Soompi described the number as a significant increase from the Oct. 10 premiere.
The spy romance airs on weekends at 9:10 p.m. KST as tvN's 20th-anniversary special drama, the Korea Times reported. Kim You-jung plays Lee Ga-gyeong, the top pickpocket in colonial-era Gyeongseong, who is recruited by the independence movement to infiltrate the Japanese Government-General of Korea disguised as an interpreter trainee. Park Jinyoung of GOT7 plays Kim Tae-woong, who goes by Sato Hideo, an elite interpreter and the adopted son of a senior colonial official.
The two meet on a train. In a preview clip from the first two episodes, Ga-gyeong lifts Tae-woong's wallet, then lies that she is Japanese when he notices she apologized in Korean. Kim Hyun-joo plays Yoo So-ran, a sniper for a resistance group who sends Ga-gyeong on the mission, and Lee Mu-saeng and Jin Sun-kyu are also in the cast.
The story runs over 100 days during the Japanese occupation of Korea, Soompi's profile says. Tae-woong returns to Korea after about 10 years away and speaks Japanese, English and Korean. So-ran is an independence fighter who changed her identity and faked a marriage to the journalist Yoo Philip, played by Lee Mu-saeng, to take revenge on Tae-woong's adoptive father, Sato Shinichi, played by Jin Sun-kyu. She is plotting an assassination, which is why she sends Ga-gyeong inside the Government-General.
Yoo In-shik, who directed "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" and the "Dr. Romantic" series, directs, and Ryu Bo-ri wrote the script. Park told Soompi before the premiere, "It's a story that I want everyone to know." He praised the script for "the strength of a narrative in which the emotions and stories of each character are intricately connected, like a spiderweb," and said reading it showed him how much it matters to understand the past while living day to day.
Sunday's other numbers show where tvN sits. KBS 2TV's "Love on the Menu" was the most-watched show of the day at 16.3 percent. KBS 2TV's "A Love Other Than Yours" opened the second half of its run at 1.9 percent, a new low for that series. JTBC's "Fly High Butterfly" rose slightly to 2.0 percent, and Channel A's "Dive into You" held at 0.3 percent.
For US viewers, Kim You-jung's most recent drama, "Dear X," streams on Viki, according to Soompi's coverage of the series.
Episode 3 airs Saturday, Oct. 17, at 9:10 p.m. KST.
