CW Renews 'Supernatural,' 'Arrow,''The Flash,' 'Riverdale,' & More + Network Boss Teases 2019 Arrowverse Crossover
The CW network has renewed 10 of its TV series and fans are excited to see their favorite television characters for another season. The network has extended the life of fan-favorites Supernatural, Riverdale, and all of its five DC superhero series: Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning.
CW made the announced at the ongoing Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California. CW president Mark Pedowitz said the early renewal of their signature series will give them a head start on laying out the 2019-2020 season. The other shows that are renewed are Charmed, Legacies, and Dynasty.
"These shows provide a strong foundation for our multiplatform programming strategy, and we look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront," Pedowitz added.
Aside from giving one more season to its 10 TV series, five additional shows are also set to premiere for The CW this year. These are Arrowverse spinoff Batwoman, Riverdale's Katy Keene, and Jane The Virgin's new anthology, titled Jane the Novela. It was earlier announced that Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and iZombie are set to end their run this season.
Meanwhile, aside from the renewal announcement, Pedowitz also teased about this year's Arrowverse crossover. He said the 2019 crossover, titled "Crisis on Infinite Earth," will be the "biggest and most complicated" in the history of the DC superhero series' crossover.
When asked if the heroes of Legends Of Tomorrow will be joining the band this year, Pedowitz admitted that he can't say for sure. However, the network president said he hopes that LOT character will join the action in the next crossover.
"I hope so. We're talking about a number of different ways to go. It is 'Crisis on Infinite Earths,' and if you know the history, things collapse," he said.
It can be recalled that in the last crossover of The CW-DC universe, White Canary (Caity Lotz), Atom (Brandon Routh), Vixen (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), and the rest of the group missed the action in "Elseworlds" crossover. The three-way crossover only involved Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), and their respective teams in dealing with The Monitor and John Deegan.
In this year's "Crisis on Infinite Earths," Batwoman (Ruby Rose) is expected to join the fight. Batwoman, a.k.a. Kate Kane, was first introduced in last year's crossover. At the end of "Elseworlds," Kate Kane called Oliver Queen to express her concern about Deegan. She told Oliver that Deegan made friends at Arkham Asylum with Roger Hayden, who is known as Psycho-Pirate.
