'Mr. Sunshine' Actress Kim Tae Ri In Talks To Star In Song Joong Ki's Upcoming Sci-Fi Film

Mr. Sunshine fans will be pleased to know that its lead actress Kim Tae Ri may work with Hallyu A-list actor Song Joong Ki in an upcoming sci-fi movie. Kim's agency has confirmed that the actress is currently in talks to join the cast of Lightning Ship.

Soompi cited a source from Kim Tae Ri's agency J-Wide Company as saying that the 28-year-old actress is about to make a decision on whether or not to accept the offer. Apparently, Kim is currently in the final stages of reviewing the K-drama offer.

Lightning Ship is a science fiction film about an outer space adventure. It was earlier confirmed that Song Joong Ki will star in the movie. It will be helmed by director Jo Sung Hee of Song's 2012 box office film A Werewolf Boy. Reports indicate that Lightning Ship is set to begin production in summer.

Kim Tae Ri has a successful 2018. Critics praised the actress for her performance in the movie Little Forest when it was released in early 2018. The movie also gave Kim a Best Actress award from the 18th Director's Cut Awards.

Then she starred in the Netflix hit K-drama Mr. Sunshine along with actors Lee Byung Hun, Yoo Yeon Seok, and Byun Yo Han. Her performance in the period drama as a granddaughter of a nobleman who falls in love with a U.S. Marine officer also gave her a Best Actress award from the 6th APAN Star Awards.

As for Song Joong Ki, he is currently tied up in filming his upcoming fantasy period drama Asadal Chronicles. The TV series is set to premiere on tvN in the first half of 2019, just in time when Song is expected to start filming for Lightning Ship. There were earlier rumors that Asadal Chronicles is being considered to release in multiple seasons but nothing is confirmed as of yet.

Asadal Chronicles is a story about love, power, and conflict between the Asadal residents as the city prosper and gives birth to a hero. Song plays the role of Eun Sum, a cursed child born in Blue Stone Village but will later become the conqueror of Asadal. The drama also stars Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ji Won, Kim Ok Bin, Kim Eui Sung, and Park Byung Eun.
