'MIXNINE' Winners Debut Update: Happy Face Entertainment Accuses YG Entertainment Of 'Gapjil'; Suing Yang Hyun Suk's Company
On June 18, Happy Face Entertainment, Woo Jin Young's agency, filed a lawsuit against YG Entertainment for failing to fulfill its promise to introduce JTBC's MIXNINE's winners as a group formally. In response to the complaint, the company headed by Yang Hyun Suk released an official statement to answer all the allegations.
Believing everything is in good faith, YG Entertainment revealed that it is surprising to learn Happy Face Entertainment sued the company. It thought their series of discussions had solved the issues between all the parties. "We were under the impression that we amicably came to a conclusion regarding our discussions with 6 different agencies," it said.
Happy Face Entertainment is asking for 10 million won or about $9,000 worth of damages. It also revealed "issues regarding pay, expenses, and contractual agreement with YG Entertainment," per Koreaboo. "We did not expect this at all," the company led by Yang Hyun Suk said.
Hence, YG Entertainment will be using its own legal team to answer the accusations against it. It is also hoping that all of the misunderstandings regarding the MIXNINE issues will be resolved.
On the other hand, Happy Face Entertainment also revealed its own official statement about the lawsuit it filed against YG Entertainment. The company explained that it is asking for 10 million won in hopes to remove South Korea's pop culture from the alleged big companies' "Gapjil." According to AllKpop, "Gapjil" means the unreasonable move made by the "privileged class against the lower class" in English.
Happy Face Entertainment claimed that its trainee, Woo Jin Young, fans, and the other MIXNINE winners are all expecting that they will be introduced as a group and promoting for four months. However, YG Entertainment didn't discuss any of its plans to debut the JTBC show's top nine. "Despite knowing full well the contestants' desperation toward debut, YGE continued to neglect the group," it said.
Happy Face Entertainment also accused YG Entertainment of changing its original contract's terms without consulting the trainees' agencies. From here, the companies had different opinions that led to the cancellation of the MIXNINE winners' debut. "The entire ordeal all the way up to the team's debut cancellation was a result of YGE's continued selfish behavior," it claimed.
