'Dragon Ball Super' Movie News & Update: Akira Toriyama Reveals Behind-The-Scenes Sketches, Film's Runtime Hinted
A few details about the upcoming Dragon Ball Super movie are now emerging thanks to new interviews with the people behind the show. Akio Iyoku hinted at the film's possible runtime while anime series creator Akira Toriyama once again revealed behind-the-scenes work.
Dragon Ball's official website gave a glimpse of Akira Toriyama's unrevealed work. This time, the 63-year-old manga artist unveiled the never-before-seen look of adult Piccolo and Goku. As shared by Twitter user @Herms98, the game artist drew rough sketches of the anime series' cast on their way to the 23rd Tournament. Here, it features Goku and Piccolo's fight which happens during the Piccolo Jr. saga.
This is the first time Akira Toriyama showed his sketch of Piccolo with the look fans know. According to Comicbook, in the Dragon Ball saga, Piccolo is known as Piccolo Jr. He is the great Demon King Piccolo's reincarnation who brought fear on Earth until Goku successfully brought him down. However, just like Vegeta, he went through a significant personality change that brought him to Goku's side.
Meanwhile, in a new interview with Dragon Room chief Akio Iyoku regarding the Dragon Ball saga's latest series, Dragon Ball Movie: Front Line, it looks like the editor-in-chief hinted the Dragon Ball movie's runtime. After revealing what Akira Toriyama contributed in the film, it seems he slipped on precisely how long the movie will possibly run.
Today in The Increasingly Sporadic Works of Toriyama: to celebrate May 9th (Piccolo Day), it's Toriyama's rough sketches of the cast for the 23rd tournament, marking the first time he drew Piccolo in the form most familar to us day. https://t.co/cITiqVhTuT pic.twitter.com/LyokSfD2a1

It looks like Akio Iyoku unconsciously revealed Akira Toriyama is more comfortable "telling a complete story in two hours" than doing a narrative for "a long-running" television series. Did the editor-in-chief just reveal that the Dragon Ball Super movie will run for two hours? The film's runtime is yet to be confirmed, but fans are clamoring. It will indeed run for a couple of hours to tell a juicier story.
However, there is a possible theory that the Dragon Ball Super movie will possibly run for two hours. As the Battle of Gods lasted for one hour and 45 minutes and Resurrection F ran for one hour and 34 minutes, it might be more appropriate to feature the saga's first film for a couple of hours. This, too, might be enough time to tell the Saiyans' story in the much-awaited movie.
