Paul Wesley told the reporters that he heard about the wedding during the Comic-Con.

"I had no idea what everyone was talking about, and I still kind of don't really know what it's about. But apparently there's some June wedding - like, the fans talk about a June wedding. So when they first told me that we were going to have a June wedding, I was like, 'Oh, cool. We're paying homage to the fans," Wesley said via TVLine.

The actor revealed that he never imagined that Stefan would get married to Caroline. He never knew if these two characters can be as powerful as a couple.

In "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, episode 15, the wedding is planned for Damon and Stefan to lure Katherine out into the open. Katherine must be destroyed before the threat becomes real for the Mystic Falls.

Wesley also shared that it would be weird to not Elena in the finale of the show.

"It would be very strange to not have Nina [Dobrev] come back for the finale. The whole story is about two brothers ... fighting over a girl. I mean, there's a zillion other storylines, but I felt like it would have been a real shame for the show to not ... wrap that up to a degree."
