Recent private meetings between the 2NE1 leader and YG's executive producer spark comeback speculation amid successful reunion tour

2NE1 fans are buzzing with excitement after reports surfaced of private meetings between group leader CL and YG Entertainment's executive producer Yang Hyun-suk, fueling hopes for potential new music and a proper comeback in 2025.

Industry sources reveal that CL and Yang Hyun-suk have been holding regular private discussions since 2NE1's surprise reunion in 2024. These conversations reportedly cover both group activities and CL's solo career plans, marking a significant shift in their relationship since the group's controversial disbandment.

When questioned about the latest meeting, YG Entertainment simply stated, "Because this was a private meeting, we cannot confirm any specific details", but the timing has fans speculating wildly about what's next for the legendary quartet.

The timing couldn't be better. 2NE1's "Welcome Back Tour" drew approximately 170,000 fans across 16 shows in 2024 alone, with all 27 concerts selling out completely. The tour, which ran from October 2024 through April 2025, proved the group's enduring popularity eight years after their disbandment.

Critics praised the concerts, with Korea JoongAng Daily calling them "the true definition of what K-pop is and what it should be". The demand was so intense that ticket servers crashed, and additional dates were added in multiple cities.

Here's where things get complicated. YG's 2025 Sustainability Report notably excluded 2NE1 from their official artist roster, which includes BLACKPINK, BABYMONSTER, and TREASURE. This has led to speculation that the group operates under project-specific agreements rather than full contracts.

Without renewed contracts or explicit permission from YG, 2NE1 cannot release new music under their name, despite their overwhelming reunion success. The members currently work with different agencies individually while collaborating for group activities.

The evidence is mounting. During recent tour dates, CL addressed fan requests for new music, saying it's "definitely in consideration". Park Bom also expressed hopes for a comeback by 2025, while CL recently posted cryptic studio photos with the caption "Cooking" - industry slang for working on new music.

Adding fuel to the fire, YG Entertainment reportedly renewed their 2NE1 trademark hold in September 2024, just as the reunion tour kicked off. Fans see this as a clear signal that bigger plans are in motion.

2NE1's story represents more than just nostalgia. The group pioneered the fierce, attitude-heavy concept that influenced countless K-pop acts, from "Fire" to "I Am the Best." Their sudden 2016 disbandment - which members learned about through news reports - left unfinished business that the reunion tour only partially addressed.

The ongoing CL-Yang meetings suggest both sides recognize the untapped potential. With BLACKPINK on hiatus and YG needing proven hits, a 2NE1 comeback could be mutually beneficial.

While nothing's confirmed, all signs point toward 2025 being a pivotal year for 2NE1. The combination of tour success, renewed trademarks, cryptic studio posts, and ongoing high-level discussions suggests fans' dreams of new music might finally come true.

Whether it's a single, full album, or extended collaboration remains to be seen. But after eight years apart, 2NE1 has proven they're still forces to be reckoned with - and Yang Hyun-suk seems to be paying attention.
