‘StarCraft 2’ Match Fixers Arrested In South Korea; Suspects Banned For Life!
"StarCraft 2" match fixers have been found out and arrested in South Korea. The suspects has been officially banned from playing "StarCraft 2" for life, according to the source cited below.
There are about 12 individuals that have been implicated in the scandal in South Korea recently. Among those who have been implicated are pro players of "StarCraft 2" who are YoDa, and BBoongBBong, and also the team Prime head coach Gerrard, according to PC Gamer. Gerrard and YoDa are now banned for life, says the Korean e-sports Association.
The association also promises to pursue further "strong legal measures" against them. There are also other people who are implicated. These individuals are two financial backers who are described as "gangsters" with ties to organized crime, according to sources.
There were five pro "StarCraft 2" matches that were investigated. The authorities found out that they were fixed. The GSL Season 1 match was fixed with Gerrard ordering YoDa to intentionally lose. The coach received 10 million Korean Won for that fix. The coach also received 5 million Korean Won from an unnamed "Mr. Kang", according to Eurogamer.net.
The SKT Proleague was also apparently fixed. BBoongBBoong is accused of getting 5 million Korean Won to lose a match.
"Since 2010, the association has worked alongside the rest of the industry to fight against the illegal betting that has continued to threaten the foundation of e-Sports," read a statement translated by TeamLiquid.net. "It is extremely regrettable that a related incident has occurred again, and we apologize to all of the fans who have shown e-Sports their love and support."
"Once again, we apologise for worrying all of the fans of Korean e-Sports and everyone who works tirelessly for the advancement of e-Sports," The statement continued.
"StarCraft 2" match fixers also invaded the "StarCraft 2" pro scene in the past with Won 'Justin' Jong Seo.
