South Korean Actress ‘Kim Jayeon’ Lost Her Job After Wearing A Statement Shirt

South Korean actress Kim Jayeon lost her job after posting a photo in twitter of her wearing a statement shirt with a slogan "Girls do not need a prince."

The "Gamergate" controversy around the world of video gaming has step up a new level. The name was derived from a row over Western gamers were mostly male and anti-women. A similar row happened in South Korea where in the country has the strongest culture of gaming.

According to Steve Evans, a reporter from BBC, he said that it all started with a statement on a T-shirt.

The statement written in front of the said T-shirts is "Girls do not need a prince". This stamen doesn't seem to be controversial to wear.

In different parts of the world, the slogan will look like a normal shirt to be worn by young woman without prompting a second look.

However, when actress Kim Jayeon, tweeted her photo wearing the T-shirt, it generated a storm of controversies and lost her job.

Gaming is a big issue in South Korea and it is considered as part of the culture like Football. Jayeon was the voice of one of the characters in a South Korean online game called "Closers".

Many fans of the online game "Closers" submitted their complaints to Nexon, the company who produced the game. According to some female activists, many of the complaints are offensive and anti-women.

Megalia is a feminist group in South Korea who complaint about the photo issue of Jayeon. Megalians said that the slogan meant to decry the idea that women need men to support them.  

Nexon quickly apologize to the protesters and fired the actress. The company also said that they will pay the actress for her full work but her voice will not be used on the game anymore.

The company released a statement saying "We recognized the voices of concern amongst the Closers community. We have suddenly decided to seek a replacement in the role." The company agreed that the voice of the actress will not be heard in the game.

This controversy had shattered the online gaming industry not only in South Korea but as well as in many parts of the world. Furthermore, actress Kim Jayeon has not yet released any statement regarding the controversy she was facing.
