Nigerian Army Reiterates Willingness To Collaborate With South Korea In Building Capacity Of Its Military For Efficient Performance
Nigerian Army has once again expressed its desire to work in partnership with the Republic of Korean army in developing the capacity of its troops through training, which could result to a more efficient performance, The Premium Times reported on Wednesday.
"The Nigerian Army has expressed its continuous collaboration with the Republic of Korean Army in building capacity of its military for efficient performance," Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai says while hosting the South Korean Defence Attaché (DA) to Nigeria Navy Captain Shin Jae Sung.
He goes on, "I have noted with satisfaction the training exchange programme between the two armies which have spanned for decades and promised to maintain the excellent relationship existing between them."
Prior to that, Sung told Buratai that the objective of his visit was to seek for the development of the collaboration of the militaries as regards training and capacity building.
Sung adds that the "present security challenges in Nigeria are not peculiar to the country, adding that countries are faced with various challenges," adding that the situation in Nigeria is akin to Korea.
In addition, he says that there is a need to improve the combat plans of Nigeria and South Korea.
On the other hand, Nigerian Army reported kills about a hundred members of Boko Haram insurgents on the same day after the latter allegedly attacked the 120 Task Force Battalion troops at Goniri, Vanguard reported on Wednesday.
"The fleeing Boko Haram terrorists in a desperation to create an impression that they remain relevant, early today made a futile attempt on 120 Task Force Battalion troops at Goniri, Yobe State," Acting Director of Army Public Relations Col. Sani Usman says in a dispatch. "During the encounter, our gallant troops successfully repelled the attack and inflicted heavy casualty on the invaders, as all of them were killed."
"More than 100 terrorists died but unfortunately however, seven of our gallant soldiers paid the supreme price while defending our father land, one officer and eight soldiers were also wounded," he adds.
The Nigerian Army recovered arms and ammunitions such as two rocket-propelled grenade, nine AK-47 rifles as well as belted rounds of 7.62 ammunitions from the insurgents.
