Instagram is experimenting with a feature that would let users pin posts to their profile grid, according to TechCrunch. The feature is currently live for a few users that are part of the test with a "Pin to your profile" option appearing in their tri-dot menu. It'll simply allow users to highlight specific posts, both old and new, above their profile grid.

Twitter already has an option to pin tweets while Tiktok let you pin video posts. The upcoming feature would be quite similar, likely letting users highlight buried yet favorite Instagram posts right above their profile. Instagram creators can potentially utilize it to draw attention to content without compelling followers to scroll down through past posts in search of it.

Meta confirmed the feature is in the works to TechCrunch. It also indicated that the feature has been in testing for a few months now, first spotted in January by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, TechCrunch notes.

At the moment, Instagram highlights are the closest feature users have for pinning content on the platform. Anyone can feature a single or a collection of Instagram stories permanently on their profile as well as label those collections such as clustered stories about travel, food, quotes, and more. In contrast to grid posts, stories are privately archived after 24 hours so this feature has helped keep stories consistently running.

Creators and influencers often use the highlights feature to organize popular content like community Q&As, resource or product links, event highlights, and others.

Once the post-pinning feature rolls out after the test, it's won't be a surprise for pinned posts to include popular or trending content as well as serve as a new variety of digital ad space for influencers working with brands to create sponsored content.
