Despite Absence, BTS, TWICE, And IU Win Big At The 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards
The 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards is finally over. Aside from the jaw-dropping performances, the main event is the awards ceremony itself.
MAMA is quite known for not giving awards to those not in attendance at the event. However, this year's ceremony might just be an exemption due to the ongoing pandemic.
For the first time since their debut, K-Pop's "Best-selling Girl Group" TWICE is absent from MAMA. BTS is also not in attendance at the event due to conflict in schedule and travel restrictions brought upon by the current situation. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is also absent from this year's MAMA, just like all the other YG Entertainment groups from the past few years.
In addition, IU was also not able to attend the 2021 MAMA.
Despite the absence of four of the biggest names in K-pop as of the moment, this year's MAMA was a success! TWICE, BTS and IU even won the biggest awards of the night.
In fact, BTS swept all four "Daesang Awards" of MAMA 2021, including "Artist of the Year," "Song of the Year," "Album of the Year," and "Worldwide Icon of the Year."
