According to reports, JTBC is premiering its very own idol-centered drama in the second half of 2021. With the theme centered on South Korean idol stars, the drama will feature some recognizable names in K-Pop.

Leading the cast lineup of "Idol" is none other than EXID's viral queen Hani who will take on the role of Kim Jae Na, a member of the 6-year idol group "Cotton Candy. "Idol" will be Hani's first-ever leading role for a drama produced by a broadcasting company since her venture into the world of acting. Previously, Hani starred in a few short dramas including "XX" and "How to Be Thirty." The idol-turned-actress is also set to take on the main role for the upcoming drama "You Raise Me Up."

Meanwhile, Actor Kwak Si Yang will portray the role of Star Piece Entertainment president Cha Jae Hyuk whose money-maker is the idol group "MARS." Kwak Si Yang is known for his role in dramas such as "Chicago Typewriter," "Welcome 2 Life," "Alice," and "Lovers of the Red Sky."

Adding to the cast lineup is former "Produce X 101" contestant Kim Min Kyu. He will transform into center member Seo Ji Han of "MARS." Prior to starring in "Idol," Kim Min Kyu was cast as one of the leads for the 2020 drama "Pop Out Boy!"

Idol groups "MARS" and "Cotton Candy" both belong to Star Piece Entertainment, but the latter struggles to make a big break into the K-Pop scene. The drama will revolve around the journey of "doomed idols" and their struggle to make a name for themselves in the tough industry that is K-Pop.

For the drama "Idol," JTBC is reported to be working with a team of experts from the K-Pop industry including music producers, artists, and creators for the performances of the series.
