It has been approximately five years since the zombie virus in "Train to Busan" hit the big screens

Released in July of 2016, "Train to Busan" was directed by South Korean director and screenwriter Yeon Sang-ho. The story revolves around a train, like the title suggests, going from Seoul, South Korea, to Busan due to a chemical leak at a biotech plant which causes humans to turn into zombies, making a deadly outbreak hit the country of South Korea.

Gong Yoo, Ma Dong-seok, and Jung Yu-mi are the leading actors of the film, and a sequel entitled "Peninsula" was released only last year, in 2020. Additionally, an animated prequel entitled "Seoul Station" was released a month after the release of "Train to Busan."

Moving forward to the present day, the speculations of a Hollywood remake for the South Korean hit movie have been around since 2018 and were confirmed not long ago.

Now, after three whole years of waiting, a director has finally been confirmed for the South Korean zombie blockbuster Hollywood remake.

As per reports from Deadline, a trusted entertainment news site, Timo Tjahjanto is set to helm the movie for the studio New Line.

Tjahjanto, known for his films under the horror genre, recently also directed the Netflix action thriller "The Night Comes for Us," so it is safe to say that the film is in good hands. Moreover, this will be Timo Tjahjanto's debut in the Hollywood spotlight.

Timo Tjahjanto has also directed "May the Devil Take You," its sequel "May the Devil Take You Too," "Headshot," "Macabre," and many more. This could possibly mean that Hollywood wants to add an extra thrill to their version of "Train To Busan."

No date has been released yet with regards to the remake's release, but since a director has been chosen already, it's only a matter of time for actors to be chosen, and the filming can begin.
