Super Junior's Siwon To Play Lead Role In Upcoming Crime/Comedy Drama

Super Junior member Choi Siwon is coming back on small screen. He has been confirmed to play the lead male role in the upcoming crime/comedy TV series of KBS.

Siwon's label, SM Entertainment, has announced that the actor/singer is set to star in the upcoming K-drama, titled Dear Citizens. The series is scheduled to premiere next year.

Dear Citizens follows the life of Yang Jung Kook (Choi Siwon), a con man and comes from a family whose business is to commit fraud. He tries to earn money so he can marry his girlfriend who is a policewoman. In doing so, he approaches a loan shark to scam that person but he ends up being scammed instead.

After they got married, Jung Kook gets tangled in a series of schemes. He, later on, finds himself running for congressman.

The series will be helmed by Jugglers director Kim Jung Hyun. The script was written by Bad Guys writer Han Jung Hoon. Dear Citizen is set to premiere in March 2019.

Siwon is already an actor before he became a member of Super Junior. He appeared in 2014 K-drama Precious Family and in romance comedy Eighteen, Twenty-Nine the following year.

His notable movies include Helios, To the Fore, and Dragon Blade alongside Jackie Chan. Siwon also gained recognition for portraying diverse roles on television.

He played lead roles in Oh! My Lady, Poseidon, and Revolutionary Love, and had supporting roles in Athena: Goddess of War, The King of Dramas, and She Was Pretty. Dear Citizens is Siwon's comeback on K-drama after his Revolutionary Love that aired a year ago.

He debuts with the rest of his Super Junior bandmates in 2005. The group consists of thirteen members at its peak. Super Junior launched into international recognition following the release of their best-selling single "Sorry, Sorry" from their hit album of the same name in 2009.

Over the years, the group has been divided into smaller subunits to target different audiences. Siwon became part of seven-member sub-group named Super Junior-M, a Mandopop subgroup for the Chinese music industry.

Choi Siwon was recently attended a Stanford University conference to share some insight about the K-pop industry. He also presented the Super Junior's history and shared his thoughts about the success of the K-pop group.
