South Korea’s Blockbuster Film ‘Veteran’ To Appear In North America’s Big Screens On September 18

CJ Entertainment's "Veteran" has earned a gross total of $82.8 million in South Korea crossing over 12.5 million admissions and now North America will be able to watch the blockbuster film in their theatres on Sept. 18.

"Veteran" revolves around a seasoned detective who is on a high-profile case that deals with an arrogant heir to a powerful and corrupt conglomerate group.

"The film embodies Ryoo Seung Wan's style as a writer-director, with humorous dialog and social commentaries," noted film critic Jeong Ji Ouk.

HanCinema reported on Tuesday the crime action film will be released in North America's major cities, including Chicago, Washington and New York with a special premiere event in Los Angeles on Sept. 16 and 17 to be attended by "Veteran" Director Ryoo Seung Wan.

Ryoo has just attended the 40th Toronto International Film Festival that took place from Sept.10 to 20 where he was greeted with positive response from 400 film industry officials and audience who attended the event to watch the South Korean movie at the Scotiabank theatre.

Yonhap News noted on Sept. 9 the Los Angeles event will be sponsored by the Korean Cultural Center where L.A.P.D. officers and their families will be given a special screening of the movie on Sept. 16 followed by a press conference and public preview screening with Ryoo on Sept. 17.

"Veteran" will appear on 46 theatres in North America, which is a larger number as compared to other CJ Entertainment tiles, including "Ode To My Father" that appeared on 38 screens and "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" appearing on 30 screens, both of which were listed at 2014's top 10 highest-grossing foreign language films in America.

Apart from North America, "Veteran" is set to be released in other Asian countries, including Vietnam on Aug. 28; Indonesia on Sept. 23; Hong Kong and Australia on Oct. 1; Thailand on Dec. 10 and Japan on Dec.12.

According to Hollywood Reporter on Sept. 6, CJ Entertainment's "Veteran" is now ranked ninth best Korean film of all time.
