President Obama's Gun Control Plans (as announced at a recent press conference) emphasizes a new set of executive actions in order to reduce Gun violence. These plans were announced in his recent speech.

As cited by Forbes, Obama's New Gun Control Speech at the recent emotional press conference emphasized how he aimed to improve background checks on those who buy guns, community safety, mental health treatment and in terms of smart gun technology.

"We've created a system in which dangerous people are allowed to play by a different set of rules than a responsible gun owner who buys his or her gun the right way and subjects themselves to a background check" Said Obama.

The administration has announced the following executive actions to make sure that all gun dealers own license and run background checks and to strengthen the background check itself. What follows are points from the Fact sheet of The White House's Press Room- New Executive Actions to Reduce Gun Violence and Make Our Communities Safer:

1. Clarify that it doesn't matter where you conduct your business-from a store, at gun shows, or over the Internet:  If you're in the business of selling firearms, you must get a license and conduct background checks.

2. Require background checks for people trying to buy some of the most dangerous weapons and other items through a trust or corporation.

3. Ensure States are providing records to the background check system, and work cooperatively with jurisdictions to improve reporting.

4. Make the background check system more efficient and effective.

5. Ensure smart and effective enforcement of our gun laws.

6. Ensure that dealers notify law enforcement about the theft or loss of their guns.

7. Issue a memo directing every U.S. Attorney's Office to renew domestic violence outreach efforts.

8. Increase Mental Health Treatment and Reporting to the Background Check System

9. Dedicate significant new resources to increase access to mental health care

10. Include information from the Social Security Administration in the background check system about beneficiaries who are prohibited from possessing a firearm

11. Remove unnecessary legal barriers preventing States from reporting relevant information to the background check system.

12. Shaping the Future of Gun Safety Technology

13.  Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Department of Defense, Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security to take two important steps to promote smart gun technology.

President Obama in his Gun Control Speech asked, "If we can set it up so you can't unlock your phone unless you've got the right fingerprint, why can't we do the same thing for our guns?" he said. These regulations are likely to prevent gun violence in the nation's future.
