Many may be shocked upon hearing the news that Kate Middleton's engagement ring is reportedly missing - its replica in the Royal gift shop, that is.
According to a news report, Kate Middleton may have banned the Royal gift shop from selling a replica of her sapphire and diamond engagement ring which originally belonged to Princess Diana.
There are speculations that Kate Middleton may have found it tacky that the Royal gift shop is selling cut-price versions of a piece of jewelry that has a huge significance in her and Prince William's life and love story.
Kate Middleton's engagement ring is reportedly valued at £1 million or $1.5 million.
"I expect the feeling at Kensington Palace is that it's rather naff to sell cheap copies of Diana's engagement ring," a source close to the Palace reportedly told Daily Mail, as quoted in a news report.
"One can hardly blame Kate for vetoing the idea of them selling a knock-off of the ring she wears every day."
Some speculate that Kate Middleton's disapproval of replicas of her engagement ring may be connected to the sense of exclusivity that it provides - owning the engagement ring brings her into a club where she and Princess Diana are the only members.
Rumors that Kate Middleton could be channeling her inner Princess Diana sparked late last year when the future queen wore the late princess' Lover's Knot tiara.
"The Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara was a favorite of Princess Diana's and Duchess Kate wore the stunning pearl and diamond headpiece to Queen Elizabeth's annual Diplomatic Reception," Celeb Dirty Laundry wrote in a news report in December.
The report further emphasized the importance of Princess Diana's tiara which Kate Middleton recently wore.
"The tiara was a gift from Queen Elizabeth to Princess Diana when she married Prince Charles in 1981. This is the first time the public has seen anyone wear the tiara since Diana's death in 1997," CDL's news article added.
