'Deadpool' Movie Trailer Hints At Introducing New Mutants

The "Deadpool" trailer hints at introducing the new heroes.

By now, it's safe to assume that Tim Miller's "Deadpool" won't share connections with Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" as the latter is set 3 decades before Wade Wilson's solo film. But based on the recently released "Deadpool" trailer, the Merc with a Mouth's movie might pave the way for a future X-Men spinoff.

The film already shares an X-Men connection with the addition of mutant Colossus. "Deadpool" director Tim Miller told Empire that Colossus "really connects us to the X-Men universe too which is a good thing in small doses."

Moreover, "Deadpool" images from Empire show Ellie Phimister a.k.a. Negasonic Teenage Warhead, wearing a New Mutants costume, establishing the the New Mutants exist in Deadpool's timeline.

20th Century Fox has yet to comment on the subject and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt.

Plans for a Deadpool solo film came shortly after the character debuted in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." However, due to the film's entire script getting leaked online along with "Wolverine" failing to rake in numbers at the box office, 20th Century Fox decided to scrap the project altogether. Since then, Deadpool was stuck in development hell until it was greenlit in late 2014 after test footage made its way to Comic-Con International in San Diego.

The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle a.k.a. Copycat, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, T.J. Milleras Weasel, Ed Skrein as Ajax, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

"Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after bei to ng subjecteda rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool," reads the synopsis via the movie's official Twitter account. "Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life."

Fox's "Deadpool" movie arrives in theaters on Feb. 4, 2016.
