South Korea won against Lebanon at the World Cup qualifying tournament on Tuesday, maintaining an undefeated record in the second round of the Asian qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This feat led the team to the top of Group G at nine points.

Yahoo News reported on Tuesday that the South Korean team's first victory came down to a penalty shot by Jang Hyun Soo on the twenty sixth minute, helping them win against Myanmar at 2-0 in June and Laos at 8-0 on Thursday. Getting ahead at two wins was credited to Koo Ja Cheol, 2011 Asian Cup's top scorer. For their third consecutive victory, Kwon Chang Hoon scored his third goal.

"When the players execute their game plan and take care of business then coaches are essentially on vacation on the bench," said South Korea coach Uli Stielike. "This match was like that. Though we had some difficulties in the last 10 minutes or so, we dominated from start to finish."

The Korea Times noted in their article on Tuesday that it was the first time in four matches since 1993 that South Korea ended victorious against Lebanon. The Asian team incurred one loss and two draws in the last three matches against the Middle Eastern team.

Kuwait also reportedly won three matches, but remained behind South Korea based on goal difference at plus-13 to plus-12.

Stielike expressed his delight and satisfaction with his players for establishing a two-goal lead early in the tournament.

"With poor pitch conditions, it was difficult to generate spectacular plays," explained Stielike. "But we were still able to exploit open space on their defense effectively."

South Korea is set to compete against Kuwait on Oct. 8.
