Microsoft Inc is working on its new Surface smartphone to be launched in 2016 against other rivals of the smartphone market. The recent Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL were clear indications that releasing new high end smartphones aren't just enough.

The company has admitted that its latest device Lumia 950 smartphones did not impress users as much to be able to switch from their iPhone. This strategy has hinted that a new smartphone that could be a spiritual equivalent to its surface line of computer devices could come to its rescue at this point.

iDigitalTimes cited that Microsoft Inc's CMO Chris Capossela in his interview admitted that the flagship Lumia devices namely Lumia 950 Windows 10 Smartphone might be solid but not competent to other devices. He has said that "Microsoft needs a Microsoft needs a "spiritual equivalent on the phone side that doesn't just feel like a phone for people that love Windows." He also says that smartphones should have apps like Instagram, Snapchat, etc essentially. Such apps are still not available on windows platform. This "app gap" should be met soon. He has not really mentioned if its going to be an Apple-rivaling smartphone or not. It has been rumoured that Microsoft Inc is offering the Surface Phone an ebility to run all windows softwares in addition to apps that are available for download in the Windows Store Market. This device is believed to be powered by an Intel processors with an industrial design similar to that of Surface book and Pro 4 tablet.

Similar to that of the surface book laptop and Surface Pro 4 tablet, the Microsoft smartphone 2016 is expected to come with flagship materials at a premium price. The new surface phone is expected to be different from surface computers but will basically be a combination of a traditional Personal computer device and a smartphone that is capable of productivity on the go.

Forbes cited that a Microsoft smartphone for 2016 might not be successful if it is unable to convince app developers to bring apps to various mobile platforms.
