Verizon Wi-Fi Calling For Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge Confirmed; iPhone Version Available Soon?

Verizon Reports Drop In Fourth Quarter Earnings

Verizon Wireless announced that Wi-Fi calling service will be available for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge starting on Dec. 8.

Verizon said that, "customers already enjoy the largest and most reliable wireless network in the United States, and Advanced Calling with Wi-Fi Calling provides an alternative for those who wish to use Wi-Fi in the home, office or while traveling," according to Tech Times.

The Wi-Fi calling will not only be limited to Samsung S6 and S6 edge but can also be enjoyed in iPhones starting 2016. Verizon Wireless customers can make video calls and also receive one using the said Internet connection as part of their carrier.

To activate the offer, customers are required to install and download the latest software update available for Android smartphones especially with Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge and turn on the Advanced calling option in the Settings menu. Once, it's done the Wi-Fi calling option will be activated immediately, according to Verizon Wireless website.

If a customer goes beyond the coverage while using the Advance calling option via the Verizon 4G LTE network, the call will be automatically connected to the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot. The company's offer has been available for over a year that provides High Definition Voice and Video calling available for more than 20 smartphones.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users' calls made in the U.S will be free of charge while those foreign calls will be billed according to the international long distance rates.

The company has been the last to made the effort for Wi-Fi calling among wireless carriers in the U.S. Sprint and T-Mobile made the same offer for their customers and in October, AT&T followed them to  include the feature in iPhones, according to CNET.

Verizon Wi-Fi calling for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge started about a month ago after Federal Communications Commission approved the company's waiver request for the service since speech and hearing impaired customers were not included in the scope.
