CORTIS Hits No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Nine Months In, K-pop Has a New Record.
Billboard confirmed the number on Monday morning: GREENGREEN, the second EP from HYBE rookie group CORTIS, debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 dated May 23. The album earned 87,000 album-equivalent units in the tracking week, including 81,500 in pure album sales.
It is the fastest top-three entry on the Billboard 200 by any K-pop group - excluding project acts - in the chart's history. CORTIS is nine months old.
Big Hit Music confirmed the record Monday, stating that CORTIS is also the only boy group formed within the past five years to have reached the chart's top three. Their debut EP, Color Outside the Lines, had peaked at No. 15 last year - already a landmark debut for a group that hadn't yet played a full arena tour.
GREENGREEN was built around a deliberate concept split: "REDRED" as the refusal of trend-chasing, "GREENGREEN" as the instinct to go forward. That framework, which the members developed together in the studio, produced four of the EP's six tracks as full group co-writes. The lead single "REDRED" entered Spotify's Daily Top Songs Global chart on release and has logged 25 consecutive days - reaching No. 135 on the global chart as of May 16. It also climbed to No. 30 on Billboard's Pop Airplay chart this week, the group's first entry on that chart.
CORTIS reached this position without the playbook most K-pop groups follow. The standard rollout - Korean music shows, Japan debut, Southeast Asia fan meets, North America showcases - CORTIS ran in parallel from the start. Jakarta led their Spotify monthly listener cities at 241,200 fans. "REDRED" simultaneously entered Apple Music's "Today's Top 100" in 20 countries on release day, including Korea, Canada, Taiwan, China, and Thailand. There was no sequential build.
For HYBE, the chart result lands five days before BTS opens four nights in Las Vegas as part of the Arirang World Tour. Two HYBE acts holding major US chart positions in the same week is not a coincidence of scheduling - it reflects a label strategy of tiered artist launches designed to keep roster momentum continuous between superstar cycles.
CORTIS has not announced a North America tour. Their next confirmed shows are in Macao on May 23.
