Hacker Group Disrupts Bay Area Mass Transit System

In a protest against Iceland's whale-hunting, activist hackers, "Anonymous," collectively brought down five of the nation's government websites, according to Reuters.

The websites of the environment and interior ministries, and Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugson's official site was brought down Friday and remained so until midday, Saturday.

The hackers have claimed responsibility for the outage, while the goverment made no comment.

A video was posted on YouTube by the "hacktivists," encouraging people to hack websites linked to Iceland. This is in protest to the persistent commercial hunting despite an international moratorium.

From 1986, the International Whaling Commission or IWC is an international govermental body that imposed a ban on commercial whaling, but Norway and Iceland who are both members continue to hunt whales, revealed Express.

For decades, including the 70s and 80s, the North Atlantic nation has come under fire for whaling. Activists Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Greenpeace have tried to disrupt yearly hunts by sabotaging hunting stations or by using boats.

Greenland is Iceland's only close neighbor, and Icelanders continue to rely on whaling and fishing as a vital part of their economy.

Recently, the "hacktivists" turned their attention to Icelandic restaurants that serve whale meat, reported the Reykjavík Grapevine.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the deadly attacks in Paris, Hacker Deric Lostutter has broken his silence on how he and his fellow "Anonymous" hackers plan to destroy the Islamic State Terrorists.

"We're a structure-less, leaderless organization so to speak, I'm a member, you're a member, your daughter, your sister, your pastor." said Lostutter unmasked, in a Fox interview. "The fact is, ISIS can recruit people anywhere, and by disrupting their communications, we make that a little bit harder. They're fearless, and that's the hardest enemy to hurt, is the ones that aren't afraid of dying."

Deric Lostutter sets up a host of fake Twitter accounts which automatically reports ISIS connected accounts, as well as hashtags used by terror sympathisers. This prevents extremists to recruit and groom online users.

"It fights their way of spreading their extremism. It's not only effective, but it's fun at the same time," added Lostutter. "They decided to move to the dark web, ISIS did, to try to avoid 'Anonymous.' Well, that's like, you're just living in our basement now," cited Mirror.

Lostutter also revealed that a website that supports ISIS has been hacked to replace a propaganda video with an advertisement for Viagra.
