Also known as chokeberries, Aronia berries are traditionally used by Native Americans as a cold remedy. Mainly, Aronia berries are used to make purees, juices, teas, and wines. 

Such small, dark fruits that grow on shrubs are also available as a supplement.

Aronia berry is jam-packed with nutrients including vitamin C, Manganese, and vitamin K. It also boasts a high fiber content and is an excellent source of antioxidants that protect cells from harmful free radicals. Aronia berry is also a great source of folate, iron, and vitamins A and E.

Aronia berries have been shown to contain high levels of antioxidants, especially the polyphenol called anthocyanin. Studies have shown promising effects of anthocyanin found in Aronia when it comes to stopping the growth of colon cancer cells. In fact, a test-tube study reported that "50 mg of Aronia extract reduced colon cancer cell growth by 60% after 24 hours."

Not only that, but Aronia extract may also reduce "reduce oxidative stress related to breast cancer."

How to add Aronia Berries to your diet

You may consume Aronia raw or make it into a refreshing drink. Aronia berries are also a great addition to pastries and other desserts. The nutrient-dense berries can also be taken as a supplement like the Codeco Aronia capsules that are 100% organic.
