Also known as chokeberries, Aronia berries are traditionally used by Native Americans as a cold remedy. Mainly, Aronia berries are used to make purees, juices, teas, and wines. 

Such small, dark fruits that grow on shrubs are also available as a supplement.

Aronia berry is jam-packed with nutrients including vitamin C, Manganese, and vitamin K. It also boasts a high fiber content and is an excellent source of antioxidants that protect cells from harmful free radicals. Aronia berry is also a great source of folate, iron, and vitamins A and E.

Studies have shown promising effects of anthocyanin found in Aronia when it comes to stopping the growth of colon cancer cells. In fact, a test-tube study reported that "50 mg of Aronia extract reduced colon cancer cell growth by 60% after 24 hours."

Not only that, but Aronia extract may also reduce "reduce oxidative stress related to breast cancer."

How to add Aronia Berries to your diet
