Court Orders MLD Entertainment To Pay Former MOMOLAND’s Daisy 79.26 Million KRW
The court has released its decision on the case involving former MOMOLAND member Daisy and MLD Entertainment regarding the unpaid wages.
According to reports, the Seoul Central District Court's civil affairs independent judge Kim Hong Do sided with the former idol and ordered the agency to pay Daisy a total of 79.26 million KRW.
Daisy is one of ten participants who joined the show "Finding Momoland" which produced the hit girl group MOMOLAND. Despite being eliminated during the show, Daisy was added to the lineup in April 2017 after signing an exclusive contract with MLD Entertainment in September 2016.
The girl group member has withdrawn from the group and filed a case against MLD Entertainment after the latter deducted 66 million KRW from her earnings. Such a deduction, according to MLD Entertainment was part of a contract that oblige each of the 10 participants of "Finding Momoland" to pay a tenth of the show's total production cost of 660 million KRW.
Former MOMOLAND member Daisy sued the agency for deducting 66 million KRW from her total earnings to cover a cost that occurred five months before she signed a contract with MLD Entertainment.
"It is unfair to treat expenses to cover the cost of producing the program, which we have been spending since April 2016, five months before the contract was signed," Daisy argued.
On the other hand, MLD Entertainment countered Daisy's argument, "There is no problem as the contract agreed to cover 100% of the content production costs incurred before debut."
In the end, the court ruled in favor of Daisy. The court ruled, "Unless there is a special rule, the contract is effective from the date the contract is established."
In addition to the 66 million won, the court also ordered MLD Entertainment to pay 13 million KRW to Daisy totaling the claim of the latter to 79.26 million KRW.
MLD Entertainment has submitted a petition of appeal for the ruling.
