VIXX’s Ravi Under Fire After New Song Contains Inappropriate Lyrics Towards Red Velvet Members

As of writing this article, on the 3rd of June, VIXX's Ravi dropped his new album "ROSES." In the album is a song entitled "RED VELVET" and netizens recently got angry as lyrics from the song have certain disrespectful lyrics towards the members of Red Velvet.

The particular lyrics that made netizens upset is "I take a bite out of a red velvet." Aside from this, the song also contains lyrics that allude towards Red Velvet songs and even using wordplay towards the members of Red Velvet.

Notably garnering negative press, VIXX's Ravi released an apology on the 4th of June. Here are excerpts from the statement:

"First of all, I truly apologize to the agency, staff, and members of Red Velvet, which were mentioned in the lyrics. I also apologize to the many fans who are watching me. I am sorry that this apology is being made late when I should have apologized sooner.

I thought a lot about how I would take responsibility for this issue, and today, I apologized directly to the Red Velvet members and staff through a phone call to the agency of Red Velvet. Of course, I feel responsible and am apologetic for even creating this kind of situation in the first place.

I am reflecting on myself for being careless about this incident not just as VIXX's Ravi but also as someone in charge of the label GROOVL1N. To my shame, I did not realize while working on the production that the content of the lyrics could cause discomfort to many people.

This was a song aiming to express a sweet and bright energy, but because a specific group was mentioned, I think I hold responsibility, as the person who wrote the lyrics, for the emotions felt by the artists and their fans.

I decided to remove the song from all music sites after discussing with the distribution company. It could take some time, but I will have it resolved as soon as possible. In addition, I will always work on producing carefully in the future, thinking everything over several times."
