Netizens React To aespa Releasing A Statement Regarding Their Birthday Support & Gifts Issue
One of the hottest issues regarding K-pop idols and their fans is always the one where K-pop idols accept multiple gifts (at times from luxury brands) and also extensive support for the K-pop idol's birthdays.
The aforementioned support campaigns most of the time include lunch boxes or even food trucks which are sent to schedule events.
At times, other fans and netizens believe that such fans are free to give whatever gift they please to their favorite K-pop idols. On other times, some fans and netizens look down on the practice due to the fact that K-pop idols earn enough to get their own luxury items.
Recently, SM Entertainment's rookie K-pop girl group, aespa, had their staff drop a statement which was posted on aespa's official online fan community on LYSN.
aespa's staff went on to show gratitude towards MYs, the fandom name of aespa, who show their unyielding support.
But recently, it has been clarified that the members of aespa will no longer be accepting gifts and support campaigns for events such as birthdays, anniversaries or simple schedules.
The staff of SM Entertainment's aespa notes:
"In the future, we will not be accepting any support or presents for all of aespa's schedules and miscellaneous activities such as their anniversaries or the members' birthdays.
While we thank fans for the love that has been given to aespa so far, we carefully reject any support campaigns that are in the works currently, and we thankfully accept only the heart behind it, from the fans that treasure aespa. We request for the cooperation and benevolent understanding from the fans."
A lot of fans and netizens went on to be in favor of the announcement, even giving props to aespa, dubbing their recent decision to be a smart choice.
Although really appreciated by most K-pop idols, SM Entertainment's decision with regards to gifts from fans for aespa seems to be a step on the right path.
