Joy Becomes Second Red Velvet Member To Debut Solo
On May 12th, various Korean news sites, including StaNews and Newsen reported that Red Velvet Joy is preparing for her solo debut.
Not long after the news broke out, Red Velvet's agency, SM Entertainment, confirmed the reports of Joy's solo debut. An insider from SM Entertainment told Newsen that Joy is currently working on a remake album.
"Joy is preparing a remake album, and a specific schedule will be announced soon," SM Entertainment representative revealed.
Based on the statement from the SM Entertainment representative, Joy's upcoming album will be filled with remake songs. Previously, Joy's remake version of "Introduce Me a Good Person" for the tvN drama "Hospital Playlist" was well received and even reached number one in various music charts. Joy's OST for "Hospital Playlist" also reached number five on the Billboard Korea's K-Pop Hot 100 Chart and even surpassed 487 Million digital index points on Gaon. Not only that but Joy's version of "Introduce Me a Good Person" was also nominated for MelOn Music Awards' top 10 songs of the year 2020.
Joy is the second Red Velvet member to debut solo after Wendy, who released her highly-anticipated solo mini-album "Like Water" in April.
Aside from her exciting solo debut, Joy was recently cast to star in the upcoming drama "Only One Person," where she will portray the role of Seong Mi Do. Joy's Seong Mi Do is a popular influencer who later finds out she has a terminal disease. The drama will be directed by Oh Hyun Jong, who was also the director behind the hit k-drama "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo." According to reports, the upcoming JTBC drama starring Red Velvet Joy is expected to start filming in August and will air later this year.
Meanwhile, as of this writing, there is no news regarding Red Velvet's comeback.
