EXO's D.O. & IU Win Most Popular Actor & Actress Awards At The 55th Baeksang Arts Awards
The winners of 2019 Baeksang Arts Awards will be announced on May 1 but as early as now, many are already congratulating EXO member D.O. and Korean singer IU. The two are already been revealed as winners of Most Popular Actor and Actress, respectively.
The 55th Baeksang Arts Awards will not be held until May 1. However, the winners for one of the most anticipated categories have already been revealed. The popularity award also called the V Live Favorite Artist awards, and are chosen via online voting through the V Live website.
D.O. took the most votes among the most popular male actors this year with a little over 50 percent of the total 361,105 votes. D.O. was praised for his portrayal in the historical romance drama, 100 Days My Prince. The EXO member also recently starred in the movie Swing Kids.
IU, on the other hand, received 53.2 percent of the total 145,548 votes for most popular actress category. The singer-actress recently starred in the melodrama, My Mister. IU made her film debut this month in the Netflix anthology series Persona. She was also recently cast to lead star in Hong sisters' fantasy mystery drama Hotel Del Luna.
Meanwhile, the other winners for this year's Baeksang Arts Awards will be selected by a panel of experts from television and film. According to Hellokpop, 40 experts from the entertainment industry participated in the selection before picking the final candidates for each category.
The nominees are from the movies and K-dramas that were released from April 2018 to March 2019. For the Best TV Drama, the nominees are My Mister, Mr. Sunshine, The Light in Your Eyes, Sky Castle, and Children of Nobody.
Nominated for Best TV Actor are Kim Nam Gil (The Fiery Priest), Yeo Jin Goo (The Crowned Clown), Lee Byung Hun (Mr. Sunshine), Lee Sun Gyun (My Mister), and Hyun Bin (Memories of the Alhambra).
The Best Actress category has equally cutthroat competition. The nominees are Kim Jae Hyung (Sky Castle), Yeom Jung Hwa (Sky Castle), Kim Hye Ja (The Light in Your Eyes), Kim Tae Ri (Mr. Sunshine), and Lee Ji Eun (My Mister).
The 55th Baeksang Arts Awards is will broadcast live on JTBC from the COEX D Hall in Seoul on May 1 at 9 p.m. KST. It will be hosted by Shin Dong Yup, Suzy, and Park Bo Gum.
