BIGBANG's G-Dragon Reclaims The Title Of K-Pop's King Of Instagram From EXO Member Chanyeol
BIGBANG member G-Dragon is still the king of Instagram among K-pop idols. He has reclaimed the title of K-pop idol who has most Instagram followers after it was briefly taken by EXO member Chanyeol.
Instagram has already revealed its annual list of the most popular accounts in Korea last week as part of its 2018 Instagram Awards. G-Dragon topped the list once again and Chanyeol is at second place. GD has the highest number of followers on IG among Korean celebrities since 2014.
However, Chanyeol has overtaken G-Dragon's number in the morning of December 27. At the time, Chanyeol's number of followers rose to 16,164,403 while G-Dragon had a total of 16,159,217.
A few hours later, G-Dragon regained the title. As of writing, the singer has 16,238,216. Chanyeol has also increased its number of followers and trailing close to GD at 16,200,025 followers.
G-Dragon's IG account has been inactive since he started his military enlistment in late February. His last post was on February 25. Chanyeol's most recent post, on the other hand, was a photo of him on December 25. In the photo, the EXO singer is adorable in his reindeer head accessory while seated beside a small Christmas tree.
Although Instagram already released their year-end list of most popular accounts in Korea, it is interesting to know who between the two will come out victor when 2018 officially ends. It is now in the hands of their fans.
Chanyeol currently stars in tvN's action/romance K-drama Memories Of The Alhambra alongside Hyun Bin and Park Shin Hye. He plays the role of Se Joo, the younger brother of Park's character, Hee Joo, who owns a hostel in Granada, Spain. Se Joo is a genius programmer who develops a very complex augmented reality game. The story of the K-drama revolves around the game that he developed.
As for G-Dragon, the singer is in hiatus from the limelight as he completes his military service. G-Dragon is set to be discharged on November 27, 2019. Although he has been silent on social media, he maintains his popularity and once in a while, grabs the headlines.
In the early months of his training, BIGBANG fans disrupted the military camp operation due to an overwhelming number of fan mails they received for G-Dragon. This prompted YG Entertainment to ask GD's fans to refrain from sending letters.
His followers also expressed concern about his health status when photos of the injured singer were shared online in March. Fans got even worried when it was reported that G-Dragon has undergone surgery to his right ankle.
In June, the singer reportedly receiving special treatment in Yangzhou Armed Forces Hospital during his hospitalization. BIGBANG's label, YG Entertainment, and Korea's Ministry of Defense denied the rumor.
