MOMOLAND's Yeonwoo Skips 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards; Takes Hiatus Due To Illness
MOMOLAND has received an award and performed at the recent 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards but with only eight members. MOMOLAND's agency MLD Entertainment has announced that member Yeonwoo is currently recuperating from illness and she will be taking a break from the band's activities for the time being.
MLD Entertainment said Yeonwoo has been taken to the hospital due to high fever. Moreover, the singer has been suffering from symptoms of a sore throat and her immune system has weakened. MLD decided to cancel Yeonwoo's upcoming MOMOLAND schedules starting Tuesday so she can fully recover.
"Yeonwoo has recently been in poor condition and was hospitalized today. We will put all of our strength into her quick recovery, and we feel apologetic for worrying fans," the agency said in a statement (via Soompi) on Tuesday.
MOMOLAND won the Best Female Dance Performance award at the recent 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards for their song "BBoom BBoom." The song also recently gave MOMOLAND the recognition as the first girl K-pop group to earn a Platinum certification by Gaon Music Chart for surpassing the record of over 100 million streams.
Meanwhile, Yeonwoo may not only skip the 2018 MGA but also the band's promotional activities in Japan. MOMOLAND is set to leave for Japan on Wednesday to promote their new album that includes the Japanese version of the hit track "BAAM."
Aside from Japan, MOMOLAND will also promote their music in the Middle East. The group will be heading to Dubai in January 2019 for a concert, titled Momoland Live In Concert. It will be the K-pop group's first concert in the Middle East. Their performance will reportedly last around 90 minutes with an opening act.
The female K-pop idols initially debuted in 2018 with seven members-Nancy, Hyebin, Jane, Nayun, Yeonwoo, JooE, and Ahin- through the reality TV show, Finding Momoland. Members Daisy and Taeha joined the group in early 2017. They rose to stardom when they released their electro-pop hit, "BBoom BBoom" early this year.
In June, the band also released their fourth EP titled Fun to the World and its title track "BAAM." The song followed the success of "BBoom BBoom" when it surpassed 100 million views in September. This makes "BAAM" the MOMOLAND's second music video to achieve the feat.
