‘Iron Man 4’ Cancelled: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Director Says Robert Downey Jr. Is Irreplaceable So They’ll Kill Him Off Instead?
Despite being one of the highly-anticipated films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appears that Iron Man 4 is not going to happen at all. Since the Avengers: Infinity War director previously shared that no one can replace Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, will they kill him off instead?
Joe Russo famously said that “there is nobody who can take over Iron Man from Robert,” and it seemingly slammed all the Iron Man 4 cancellation rumors. However, he then revealed that he is also aware that there is an end to everything.
“[Robert Downey Jr.] can’t play the character forever. I am sure there are lots other things he wants to do in his career,” Joe Russo explained. “But he loves playing the character, I know that, and we love working together. We will see where it goes from here."
The Iron Man 4 cancellation rumors have been making its rounds on the internet for quite a long time. However, fans held on to the idea that Robert Downey Jr.’s fourth solo Marvel film will be one of those untitled movies listed in Phase 3. Also, it was RDJ himself who confirmed the existence of Iron Man 4 during his guesting on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
But despite Robert Downey Jr.’s earlier confirmation, talks about the Iron Man 4 cancellation never really stopped. In fact, many believed that Tony Stark would finally face his demise in Avengers 4.
Rumors have it that Iron Man will make the ultimate sacrifice to save the universe in Avengers 4. Since the Avengers: Infinity War director already confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. is irreplaceable, killing his character off in the upcoming installment of the mega-hit superhero film will make a lot more sense for his exit.
If Iron Man indeed dies in Avengers 4, then all the Iron Man 4 cancellation rumors will turn out to be true. This will also mean that Iron Man 4 is not one of those untitled Marvel films that are set to be released in 2020.
There is still no official update from Marvel about Iron Man 4 as of this writing. Tony Stark’s death in Avengers 4 and the Iron Man 4 cancellation rumors have yet to be verified as well.
