Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have long been rumored to have taken their on-screen romance to off-screen. These dating rumors are quite understandable as their chemistry in the Fifty Shades franchise is undeniable. However, there is one huge problem with this allegation—the Fifty Shades Freed actor is a married man.

Despite Jamie Dornan’s five-year marriage with Amelia Warner, some fans of the erotic novel-turned-movie were still convinced that there’s something romantic brewing between the 36-year-old Irish actor, model, and musician and Dakota Johnson. The daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson had already denied all the dating speculations, but it appears that their statement only fell on deaf ears.

Dakota Johnson shared that she and Jamie Dornan had already been good friends even before they took their roles as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades trilogy. With this background, it was quite easy for the 28-year-old actress and model and the Fifty Shades Freed actor to overcome the challenges in the films because they already trust each other.

With this revelation, it seems that the chemistry that fans see on the big screen is just a result of two good pals with amazing acting skills. Unfortunately, the shippers never really stopped from hoping that they’d be more than that.

Now, Jamie Dornan’s recent interview might be the final reason for fans to finally let go of the idea of him and Dakota Johnson ending up together in real life. The actor revealed that he had a hard time saying Christian Grey’s vow while looking at Dakota Johnson in the wedding scene in Fifty Shades Freed because the words that he was saying was not how he was feeling towards the person in front of him.

“It's very strange saying vows to someone when it's not real. When we were rehearsing it, we were sort of giggling quite a lot, because it just seemed so silly,” Jamie Dornan said, revealing that Dakota Johnson felt the same way as well. “But then, obviously, by the time the cameras were rolling we were in character, and it was fun.”
