Eleanor Tomlinson confirmed there would be a Poldark Season 5 coming, but it might be the series' final installment. At the BFI screening of Poldark Season 4 Episode 1 on May 2, the 25-year-old star, who plays the role of Demelza, announced the show's renewal through a video message.

"I can confirm that we are going to make series five of Poldark," she said. "Ya! So exciting!"

Fans have been expecting the renewal of Poldark Season 5—especially since the show's lead stars, Eleanor Tomlinson and Aidan Turner, are both open to doing at least one more installment for the series. However, it is not yet revealed which book from Winston Graham's novel series the show's writer, Debbie Horsfield, is going to base the fifth installment on.

According to Radio TimesPoldark Season 4 will be based on Winston Graham's Book 6, The Four Swans, and all of Book 7, The Angry Tide. This will run until the Christmas season of 1799. So, most probably, Poldark Season 5 will be about the historical novelist's Book 8, The Stranger from the Sea.

If this will be followed, Poldark Season 5 will be featuring more than a 10-year time jump that will make Captain Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) about 50-years-old. This will be set around 1810.

However, some senior BBC sources believe the British-American drama series is about to come to an end after Poldark Season 5. But, fans should only take this with a grain of salt as BBC1 has yet to confirm the news.

In fact, Digital Spy reported Poldark Season 5's renewal is just a "formality." This is because Aidan Turner actually described the drama series as a "five-year gig." In an interview, the 34-year-old actor confirmed they will definitely do a fifth season. "We're going to shoot the fifth one," he confirmed. However, after that, he doesn't know what will happen.

So, the show's future behind Poldark Season 5 will remain a big mystery, although the 34-year-old star already talked about the possibility of extending the show into a "six-year gig." Aidan Turner explained they still have to see where the show will go to after the fifth installment. Hence, they will be taking everything "one step at a time."

This might happen if the drama series' writers will come up with a very interesting storyline to continue the show beyond Poldark Season 5 which is set to be released in 2019. Poldark Season 4, on the other hand, will be out on BBC1 this summer.
