'Yuri On Ice' Season 2 Might Be Taking Longer Than Expected But Not Cancelled
Yuri on Ice Season 2 is one of the most hotly-anticipated anime not only by its Japanese followers but also by fans from all over the world. When the first season ended its run in December 2016, fans were excitedly looking forward to the next season.
Is Season 2 Cancelled or Not?
One of the major concerns among fans is that Yuri on Ice Season 2 might not happen at all. Last year, there were already rumors and speculations floating around that the second season might have been canceled because of a movie.
At this point, most fans probably read something about a possible cancellation of Yuri on Ice Season 2. But the truth of the matter is that all of these are mere rumors and speculations and not confirmed by writer Mitsuro Kubo or anybody from the production team from Mappa, as argued by Blasting News.
In short, Yuri on Ice Season 2 is not canceled. Fans must trust that Mitsuro Kubo and the team will, at least, inform the show's loyal fans if such big decision was reached. The absence of any announcement means that the second season is still in the works
In addition, cutting short such highly successful franchise simply does not make sense businesswise. While other anime series struggle to get noticed by potential viewers, Yuri on Ice is already at the top of the game. It would make perfect business sense to milk every penny out of the franchise by churning out as many seasons as possible just like other highly successful and long-running anime such as Bleach and Naruto.
What Could Be Causing The Delay?
It may not be canceled, but that does not mean it isn't delayed. There are actually tons of theories floating around why it took longer than expected for Yuri on Ice Season 2 to come out.
Mappa Studios made a surprise announcement back in April 2017 when it revealed that the studio is actually working on a Yuri on Ice feature film, according to Comic Book. With this new development in mind, Den of Geek was quick to point out that Yuri on Ice Season 2 might not be released anytime soon since the creative team is still hard at work on the feature film.
In addition, there are speculations that the success of the first season might have put enormous pressure on the production team. In other words, they've produced such a critically-acclaimed season that they are now even more determined to come up with an even better Yuri on Ice Season 2 or, at the very least, something that is on par with the previous season. For this reason, production is a bit slow as the team wants to make sure everything is just right.
Lastly, less than two years is not considered a particularly long in-between season wait. Attack on Titan fans, for instance, had to wait for more than three years before they get to see the second season. There is also the Hunter X Hunter series where fans had to endure an abrupt hiatus due to its creator's health issues.
